Friday 18 July and Saturday 19 July
Learn the processes and techniques to create your own botanical illustration
I’m delighted to announce a teaching collaboration between Botanica Scotia, the Scottish Society of Artists (SSBA) and V&A Dundee
We are offering a two day workshop, where you can choose your plant specimen, learn how to observe its details, sketch it in graphite and bring it to life with watercolour all whilst learning the history of this centuries old practice.
This workshop will provide all the materials required*, as well as lunch and refreshments throughout. You’ll also get a chance to visit the V&A Galleries, including their latest exhibition Garden Futures.
This workshop is developed alongside Botanica Scotia and the Scottish Society of Botanical Artists as part of their exhibition for Botanical Art Worldwide, on display at V&A Dundee from 12 to 28 July 2025.
*Materials are included to use in the class, you can bring your own if you wish.
Beginners & Intermediate.

Draw on day one, paint on day two
On day two, I will show you how to colour-match to your specimen, working with watercolour to match shades and tones, and then you will begin to paint.
The day’s activities will be accompanied by examples of my botanical artworks.
We expect each day to last about six hours. Accurate botanical illustration is a slow, careful and meditative process, so expect to take your painting home to finish.
