An exhibition of nature-inspired graphic presentation, at the Green Gallery, University of Dundee Botanic Gardens
Nine artists working in Ink, watercolour, print, risograph, zines and handmade books. All of it is bold, simple and full of looking closely.
Featuring artwork by Jenny Blair, Julie Campbell, Hollis Crowe, Marianne Hazlewood, Susan Mains, Rhiannon Rose Moore, Lisa Pettersson, Agata Wawryniuk and Lizzie Wood.
The work follows plants as they grow, turn and change, from a tiny book that opens into a burst of autumn leaves to pen-and-ink studies of natural design. It looks at the shapes of creatures, and at the edges where forest meets field and river meets sea. Some pieces follow the seasons through ancient landscapes. Some hold the memory of places far from home, and the stories of the people who left them. One comic zine explores solastalgia, the homesickness we feel when the place we love is changing around us, even though we haven’t left it. Some are sketchbook pages full of splodges, doodles and daydreams, and others simply treat nature as a source of wonder and wellbeing.
Together they look back in order to look ahead, and ask what we notice when we slow down, and what stays with us as we move on.
