The Open Eye Gallery’s annual online show On a Small Scale

Launch on 16th November 2026 – Online

It’s almost time for another Small Scale show, comprising pieces by the Open Eye Gallery artists; we produce work to fit an A5, a wonderful opportunity to buy affordable pieces in the approach to the festive period. If you are interested in a preview of the full show, sign up at the Open Eye Gallery website.

Following on from the work that I created last year, my a miniature oak, Quercus lusitanica (SOLD), and a Floxglove tree seed head, Paulonia tomentosa, (still available), I decided to create a piece in another bottle dug up from the garden, over the year these have been reorganised in my limbic filing system into a category called ‘Finds‘. This time the specimen is a piece of Hydrangea Petiolaris, that wonderful climbing Hydrangea which loves the shade, so useful in Scotland (we have some new ones recently planted into new bits of the developing garden).

I brought this specimen  dried from our old home, the structures are so absorbing. I placed it in this lovely soft blue bottle, normally we throw the broken ones away (there are so many) but this was such a lovely shade and shape, it survived the cull. I feel that I must look at doing a larger head from the Hydrangea now having embarked on this smaller piece…
