We are just back from Plantae 2025
What a whirlwind, we were down and back in 36 hours. This year’s annual show was distinctive because it is the 40th anniversary of the Society of Botanical Artists (SBA). There are over 450 works. Can you imagine the hang? The presidents, committee, organisers all worked so hard to get this show up and ready, and what a job they did, the show was subtly colour coded through the venue and looked stunning. In addition to the Open exhibition, there were works from the National Trust’s Munstead Wood Florilegium, as well as 10 works from the Chelsea Physic Garden Florilegium Society and the winners of the RHS Rhododendrons, Camellias and Magnolias Group Competition, what an event!
And it’s still on until the 7th June! If you would like to visit there are details below.
I was so delighted when I got to the show to find out I’d won two awards, The SBA Exhibiting Excellence for Contemporary Art and the Branded Mark award. Imagine my surprise, during prize giving, to see images of my Arisaema triptychs, up on screen for the Making a Mark award, awarded by Katherine Tyrrell. The prize for this award is made up of a financial award and an interview to appear on her celebrated blog, Katherine posts about art and artists in the arts world and also specifically in the botanical art world at Botanical Art And Artists. So watch this space What a night!
My friend and fellow artist Inês-Hermione Mulford kindly sent me some video from the prize giving, see below.
