As a complete novice to Botanical painting and using watercolours ( I am very much a part-time ‘sketcher’ with graphite and coloured pencils) I found that Marianne’s teaching and course structure was perfect. Firstly, it was a small class so Marianne had time for everyone. Each section started with an interactive demo and the course introduction set the correct expectation of outcome of the 2 days as well as how to approach painting. Marianne provided all the materials and the brushes, paints and paper etc. were top quality, which helped achieve the fine details required. This course was friendly, informative, practical and most of all very enjoyable. It has opened my eyes to a whole new world. The observational and technical skills I have begun to learn will help me so much. I am happy to recommend a Marianne course which, with her talent and teaching ability, would help all levels of art student whether novice or advanced. Thank you Marianne.

I would thoroughly recommend Marianne’s workshops to any aspiring botanical artist.
The course I joined was a small, friendly group of 5, which allowed for a great deal of one to one interaction and made the demonstrations easy for everyone to see.The weekend was unhurried, with everyone working at their own pace with plenty of one to one guidance. The teaching was first rate from a very talented lady, with examples of her work on display. All materials were supplied, and were top quality, which is certainly not the norm in my experience. I left feeling enthused and ready to put my new found skills into practice. I will certainly be booking another!

Botanical Painting at Dukes of West Barns 12-13 September 2026
I really enjoyed myself at the weekend. I thought that Marianne’s teaching was excellent, and she was really friendly and welcoming which made the atmosphere very relaxed. The workshop was well organised with the materials all set up ready to go, and the structure of the learning was well thought out. I learned a lot in a short space of time and was thrilled with my painting that I managed to produce. I am now eyeing up some geranium leaves as my next subject.
In addition I thought that your introduction bit was really good – as it was nice to not only understand your background but also the background of the other attendees. I am so pleased that I went to Pittenweem this year and discovered your classes. It has also connected me to my Mum’s work as she had taught me about tracing and then using the tracing to apply the design to another medium – although when I leant it it was to transfer lettering to a sign for painting – and I had totally forgotten that she had shown me this many moons ago.
Looking forward to getting stuck into another piece shortly…
