Commissions

Commissioning art work is a lovely way to commemorate a special event or person. I am always delighted to work on a piece for someone or with a purpose – it infuses the work with even more meaning!

My commissions diary is fully booked at the moment, if you are interested please get in touch to see when I will be free.

Bouquet - a watercolour painting, a commission based on a bridal bouquet, featuring daisies, wax flower, eryngium, pine, birch and ami by Marianne Hazlewood

Bouquet, Watercolour on Fluid 100, in the A4 bracket.

This bouquet is the distillation of a wedding bouquet, the art work was commissioned by a mother of the groom for her new daughter-in-law. It was a challenge to capture the essence and feel of the bouquet within a small piece, but what a wonderful challenge!

Commissioning art work

I can work on a subject of your choice or we can come up with a topic. If you live in the UK, you can post a specimen up to me. If you live out with the UK we can discuss options, and I can see what I am able to source up here in Scotland. Working from photographs is possible in some circumstances, but they do need to be good well lit photos, capturing all depths of field.

Have a look at my collections page to see if there is anything that you like the look of and we can discuss style. I will keep you up to date through the process with “Work in Progress” shots. Please be aware that these commissioned art works do take some time both in the planning and execution, so it’s unlikely that I can bash something out by next week!

If you are considering a commission please get in touch and we can chat

Mounting and Framing

I can arrange to have work mounted and framed, however this is a better option for those living locally and please bear in mind that it adds cost to the packaging process as we want everything, including the frame and glass to arrive intact! For those further afield I am happy to liaise with your framer if you need assistance.

Commissioning art work – Size guide

Size is relative to the subject matter, recognising that there are simpler subjects and then ones with a lot of complexity. Sometimes you may want a small subject in a lot of white space, or a more complex subject in a smaller space, or a complex subject in a larger space…  We can discuss what you are looking for and make a judgment accordingly. Here are some rough guidelines which we can use as a starting point.

A6 (4.1 x 5.8 inches) – £200 – £400 watercolour painting, £100 – £250 ink illustration

A5 (5.8 x 8.3 inches) – £400 – £750 watercolour painting, £250 – £400 ink illustration

A4 (8.3 x 11.7 inches) – £750 – £1500 watercolour painting, £400 – £750 ink illustration

A3 and upwards – please enquire

Please note that as the artist I retain the copyright for all artworks I produce, including commissions. This means that I may choose to create prints from your commissioned art work and the prices above reflect this. If this is something you are not comfortable with please let me know prior to starting your commission and we can agree on an exclusive price.

Commissioning art work examples

Here are a few examples of recent commissioned art work that I have undertaken.

The first sweet pea was painted for my aunt, who grew the sweet peas and was commissioned by my uncle for a special birthday.

This second sweet pea was for an 80th birthday. The flowers were sent up to me by the family, and matched flowers in the recipients garden. It was lovely to be commissioned to work on this knowing that it was a birthday surprise.

This pea was designed to sit on a desk in an A5 frame. The recipient had just received her MSC, the subject of which was peas, her friend wanted to surprise her with a token to celebrate her achievement!
