The Open Eye Gallery’s annual online show – On a Small Scale will be live from 20 Nov
20 November to 21 December, online.
All works in the show are available to purchase from the gallery or online. Come back soon to access the link to the exhibition.
The show comprises pieces by the Open Eye Gallery artists; the brief is that they are A5. It’s a really lovely show to scroll through as the work is so diverse, and because they are smaller, they are affordable, perfect for this approaching festive period.
My pieces continue the green theme from my Emerge: natural design pieces, with the inclusion of colour alongside my ink work. This time, I have worked with specimens with beautiful structures and seeds; a miniature oak, or Quercus, it might be Quercus lusitanica, and a Floxglove tree seed head, Paulonia tomentosa.
I have a habit of collecting lovely bits of twig with interesting seeds wherever I see them, and then necessitating the looking for a special box to carry them home safely! I am a real nuisance to those who travel with me!!! But I am also persistent! I found these in my boxes of seeds, I don’t know where I collected them from, or when, because my persistence annoyingly doesn’t extend to a good cataloging system. It’s really about the innate beauty of the specimen.
These two specimens needed something to be propped up in while I worked. I grabbed a couple of small bottles off our kitchen windowsill. They were both dug out of the midden at the bottom of our (new to us) garden. I liked the combo, so I decided to include them in the illustrations as all ‘found’ things, and here we are.
